A Tropical Stop to Help LGBT Military Members

At the beginning of August, we were honored to be invited to present on mental health care issues for LGBT military members at the annual American Psychological Association in Hawaii. Both Drs. Heather and Jami Wilder participated in an interdisciplinary symposium that included psychologists, a philosopher, a social worker, and an educator with a background in the military. The symposium was dedicated to presenting considerations and strategies for improving mental health care for LGBT service members in the wake of the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The clinicians from Wilder Therapy and Wellness presented policy changes and intervention strategies for suicide prevention initially suggested in their article included in a special edition of Military Psychology on suicide prevention, “In the Wake of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell: Suicide prevention and outreach for LGB service members.”
